I would set up a proportion and then solve for the width, which is x. Know how to set one up?
no can you help me?
So a porportion looks like this (Number) x ------- = ------ (Number) (Number) The first fraction will consist of the 2 numbers of the original photo The second fraction will consist of x (What you're looking for), and the given number that goes along with it. Try setting that up and ill check it.
2 ---- =x 1 --- 18?
Almost, you just had the 1 and 2 flipped 1 x - = -- 2 18 Now, to solve this.. you can do numerous things. For this specific problem: You see the first number is a half and the equal sign, which means the number on the right also has to be a half. So what number would x have to be so it is half of 18? You could also cross multiply and divide, which is diagonally multiplying (hint, you need both numbers and not one can be an x) and then divide by the number you didnt use
x has to be nine right
can you help with one more?
Yes, it's 9. And sure!
ok a frame is 9in, wide and 6in, tall if it is reduced to a width of 3in, then how tall will it be?
i dont get it
So this one is like the last question, but alittle backwards. You would also set up the proportion though You would make a fraction with the original numbers of the frame, put an equal sign, and then put x
x -- (new width)
So the original dimensions are 9 and 6 right? Put that into a fraction
3 x -- = -- 9 6
Not exactly, for the 3/6 fraction, the 3 was not the original width of the frame, so the 3 shouldn't be in the first fraction
And also you wanna match heights and widths when you scan across width new width ----- = -------- height new height for example
oh so like 9=3 ---- 3=x
The top is right, but for the bottom, I think you put the wrong number. Check the original dimensions again, and you should be good
opps i meant 6
Yep, so you get: x 6 - = - 3 9 Think you can solve this one? It's like the first one, the steps that is
ok is i one or two?
So for the bottom one, what number multiplied by 3 will give you 9?
Right, so you do the same for the top. What number multiplied by 3 will give you 6?
Anytime, hope it was clear! I was jumbled at times, mb
