Anyways, To find out the least common denominator, write out the multiples of 10 (So 10, 20, 30, 40, etc), then do the same for 7
Animelover91804
  • Animelover91804
I couldn't get any common factors bc they don't have any. well.. 10 does, but 7 would just be 1 and its self
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
Every number has multiples. You would just take the number and multiply it by 1, then 2, then 3, etc Like for 10 10 x 1 = 10 10 x 2 = 20 10 x 3 = 30 and so on 10, 20, 30, etc are possible least common denominators
Animelover91804
  • Animelover91804
Oh, ok
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
A quicker way to find one is to multiply the denominators In this case, we have 7 and 10, so what can one possible least common denominator be?
Animelover91804
  • Animelover91804
it would be... um... g-ah! idk
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
Since we have 7/10 and 2/7 and we want to multiply denominators: We have 10 as one denominator (Bottom part of a fraction) and the other would be 7, right? So multiplying 7 and 10 would make 70. 70 would be a common denominator. As long as it's a common denominator, it will work
Animelover91804
  • Animelover91804
Oh!!!! okay!!
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
Alright awesome! So now we have to convert. The rule is, whatever we do to the bottom, we also have to do to the top Let's take it one step at a time and start with 7/10 What number did we multiply with 10 to get the number 70, out common denominator?
Animelover91804
  • Animelover91804
10 X 7 = 70
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
Right, we used 7. So to follow the rule, since we multiplied by 7 on the bottom, we also must multiply the top number by 7 The top number in 7/10 is 7. So we do 7 * 7 to get 49, creating 49/70 as one converted fraction! Now for the second one, we do the same thing. What number did we multiply with 7 to get 70?
Animelover91804
  • Animelover91804
10
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
Right, so what would our new converted fraction be, seeing that the top number of 2/7 is 2?
Animelover91804
  • Animelover91804
it would be... um... ugh! idk! i'm horrible with math
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
Since you saw that we multiplied 10 with the 7 to get 70, you would also multiply the 10 with 2 to get our top number
Animelover91804
  • Animelover91804
Oh! ok so that would be 20
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
Exactly, giving us 20/70 Now we have 49/70, which we found earlier, and 20/70 which we just found. Now, since you want to create 2/7 (Which is 20/70) LESS, would you add, subtract, multiply, or divide?
Animelover91804
  • Animelover91804
divide? idk
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
Let's use a variable example. Let's say I have 10 cookies. I decided to be fat and eat 9, so I have 9 LESS. How would I found out how many I need? 10 ____ 9 = 1
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
+ - * or /
Animelover91804

FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
Right! Which is subtraction So now to find the answer to this, we subtract 49/70 - 20/70 When subtracting fractions, you only do it to the numerator. The denominator remains as it is. Think you can figure what this would be 49 29 < -- Numerator = ? -- - -- ---------- -- 70 70 < -- Denominator = ?
FortyTheRapper
  • FortyTheRapper
I mean 20 -- 70 , not 29

I figured it out! thanks so much!!

Anytime! I don't know why the first guy said 1/2 when it's not the answer lol. Take care
