I believe it is because a piano has all the same notes as a violin. Mind you I have not read violin music.

I play both, they have the same notes. Learn piano first, then violin. It makes it easier.

I learned piano, then I learned violin. I've heard that learning one can make the other easier, but it doesn't mean you turn into some piano prodigy if you know how to play the violin. I think people just say that because they both have the same notes and sheet music.

My friend Xavier is in Akron early college, and a string's school for how good he play's the violin and say's that he can play the piano to cause it is to similar to a violin

I play a little bit of both. I learned the piano first and I think that it might have made learning the basics on the violin a little bit easier. Not much though, over all they both just take hard work and dedication no matter what.
